Skateboard axles
.
As "Trucks" are called the axles in the skateboard and consists of various components that affect the driving characteristics of the entire skateboard. The skateboard axles consist of the following parts: The base plate (base plate) is the part with which the axle is screwed to the deck. The base plate is connected by a screw (kingpin) to the hanger, to which the wheels (Räder) are attached. The hanger is a movable part, which allows steering with the skateboard. Between base plate and hanger are also the bushings or rubber, which consist of the plastic polyurethane. The bushings or rubber can have different degrees of hardness, which influences whether the steering behavior of the skateboard is rather hard or soft. The washers of the skateboard axle are called "washers" among skateboarders.
The height of the skateboard axles
.
Skateboard axles can have different heights, which also affect the riding characteristics of the board. The choice of the right axle height depends on body size, weight and individual riding behavior. There are low axles, which can be 46 - 49 mm high. As a medium version there are "Mid axles", which can be 50 - 53 mm high. Especially high axles are "High axles", which can be 53.5 - 58 mm high. All axle heights bring certain advantages and disadvantages. Driving with "Low axles" is usually safer and more stable, and they have less weight. However, it can happen more quickly that the wheels and deck touch each other in a so-called "wheelbites" and the skateboard brakes abruptly. Therefore, one should use here rather small wheels. There are also "Shockpads" or "Riderpads", which can be installed in the axle, which reduce vibration and also prevent the "Wheelbites". "High axles" have a higher weight and due to the greater distance between deck and floor, the driving behavior is more unstable. However, you can use all roller sizes without problems. When "popping" (setting up the skateboard by stepping on the end of the deck), the skateboard sets up more steeply. This can be useful when doing tricks like the "Ollie", because you can achieve a greater jump height. In addition to the height, the width of the skateboard axle is based on the width of the deck.
Various widths
.
On the fully assembled skateboard, the axles with mounted wheels are ideally the same width as the skateboard deck. That is, the wheels should neither überstehen, nor disappear too far under the deck. Für children boards with a width
- from 6.5 to 7.2, an axle width with 4.5 - 4.75 inches is good.
- 7.3 to 7.87 inch wide boards are best with 5.0 axles.
- 7.8 - 8.125 inch wide decks need 5.125 axles,
- 8.1 - 8.3inch decks fit 5.25 axles and
- 8.3- 8.5inch decks will fit 5.5inch axles.
But since not all manufacturers now measure their skateboard axles in inches, there are also sizesößen like 145mm to find. So you can quickly and easily find suitable axes to your board, we have built a special filter. Here you simply enter how wide your skateboard is, and the filter gives you all the axes matching this width out.
